Quarter 1 Book Portfolio:
The book that I read for the book portfolio is A Year Without "Made in China" by Sara Bongiorni. If you and your family ever tried to avoid products made in China for one year, you would find that it is more difficult than you could imagine. The Nation that we live in today completely depends upon production in China for our economy to survive. With our country being now severely dependant upon another country so completely, it is so different from our history as such a huge impact upon the worlds economy and being an independent country. When dealing with the world involved with our economy in America, it becomes a cultural and sometimes a personal role in the perspective or our country.

9/11 Discussion
The section of news that I read was a Daily Press Briefing with Philip T. Reeker, who is a Deputy Spokesman. This transcript is from 7:40 PM on Septemeber 11, 2001 in Washington, DC. This man basically acknowledging the terrible event that has happened and updates on when Secretary of State, Colin Powell, is arriving in Washington. He is also describing what The State Department has been doing for precautions and that they have been running farily smoothly.
I picked this article/transcript because I thought it was interesting to see how people in charge of order in our country dealt with the tragedy. Also, I thought it was interesting to see how the country's authority figures addressed the public immediately (at least, the same day) following the attacks. Because I was not old enough to even know what was going on, I don't remember any of the public adressings of officials. The public would obviously have been eating up anything that this man said, because immediate coverage of the attacks was very limited at the time.

Quarter One Exam - Essay Two
The Presidency of George Washington relates to the birth of political parties. Because of the electoral voting, Washington was elected president; but the person to get the second higest amount of votes was elected his vice president. This man happened to be John Adams, and he wasin the same political party as Washington; the Federaltists. This meant that the men running the country were on the same page and had the same principles.
The first parties that were significant to the United States government were Federalists, Anti-federalists and later Democratic - Republicans. The Federalists were for a strong central government, and they wanted political leaders and change for the country. The Anti-Federalists, on the other hand, were against having a strong central government and did not want change for the country or one political leader. Again, there were also the Democratic - Republicans, these people wanted a strong democracy and also wanted a democratic republic. One where the people would have as much say as the men in office and running the country. These leaders wanted to give choice to the people of the United States.
The primary political leader(s) of the Federalist party were George Washington and John Adams. They were the first President and Vice President of the United States, respectively. One of the eventual primary leaders of the Democratic- Republican party was Thomas Jefferson.

Quarter One Exam - Essay One
The Articles of Confederation failed as our first constitution because not all of the states and their political leaders agreed with it. Many thoughts were that it would only help certain people, especially the people who wrote it. The states wanted different things that would fit the needs of their own people and land. The founding fathers attempted to satisfy themselves while trying to seemingly benefit the rest of the country as best they could.
The goal that the founding fathers had during the Constitutional Convention was that they wanted to get their ideas out on the table so as to present them in the best light possible. This convention was the best way to get thier ideas around and see why they would be opposed or accepted. There were some ideas that would only be beneficial for larger states and states that owned many slaves so that they would have a higher population count. Other ideas seemed only to benefit smaller states and not make much sense to put into order in larger states.
The Bill of Rights was added because there needed to be a way to please more people. It stated the rights that all United States citizens would have, regardless of other situations. This benefited the most people of all the ideas presented. The Bill of Rights did have people and states who thought that the idea was not suitable, and therefore did not ratify it at first. It wasn't until Adams and Jefferson ratified a new proposal that the Bill of Rights idea became a clearer decision for the United States people and leaders. The Bill of Rights was eventually ratified by all of the current, at the time, states.
